Catwoman last night. I liked it the first time I saw it, but last night I was more irritated by the holes in the plot and the painful-looking way that Halle Berry walked than the first time I saw it.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (Extended Edition). It's been a long time since I watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I've been watching all 3 in a row. I'm really glad they made these extended versions of the movies, they are so much better, even though they are a lot longer, lol. I'll be rewatching them again when I've finished Return of the King to watch and listen to the commentary at the same time.

The Italian Job (2003) - not bad, Seth Green is funny, just not as good as the original! You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"

Constantine - I know it got a critical hammering but I really enjoy this movie. Vicks, isn't it funny when you love a movie that was panned and bombed? I just watched Rocky Balboa, the final chapter in the Rocky movies. I just loved it! I cried so many times. I can't believe it didn't do better in the theaters. I think this was the best of the Rocky movies, though I have to admit I haven't seen any of the others in about 20 years. I was very impressed with Stallone wrote Rocky's character as so simple, yet charismatic and wise. I loved what he said to his son about how hard life is, how you get knocked down constantly and it's not how hard you get hit, but how you keep going no matter how hard you get hit. There was so much wisdom in that. Rocky's character was intensely lonely, but sweet and with a solid center. I had been sad to hear that Adrienne was dead in this movie, but her death really informed Rocky's journey to keep going and finish his dream. I liked when her brother Paulie told Rocky he was living backwards, obsessed with his past with Adrienne and he needed to start living forwards. And, damn, Sylvester Stallone was in wicked awesome shape. Unbelievable. Milo however you spell his last name was perfectly cast as Rocky's son, since they both have the giant doe eyes and they crooked mouth. My favorite scene was when Milo was yelling at Rocky for how hard it was to live in his shadow and Rocky just let him have it with his speech about how he was better than that and he needed to stop blaming him for how hard life is. If you watch the alternate ending, it looks like that was how the movie originally ended, but they must have changed it when test audiences thought it was too sappy and predictable. The final ending had all the same footage, but they just gave a different final score for the fight in the voiceover and they cut out Mason Dixon's final speech to the cameras. I hate boxing, but I just loved this movie. I want to watch it again. My only critique is what happened to all Rocky's money? He was the two time champion before and super rich. But now he's back to this very blue collar life with nothing to show but a mediocre restaurant. At one point he'd been living in a mansion, wearing $1200 suits. I think Stallone wanted a grittier, more everyman Rocky, but they should have at least explained where all the money went.

Vicks, isn't it funny when you love a movie that was panned and bombed? Yeah... I really hate it when the critics say its great and I think its bombed. Heehee...I am a real fan of the Rocky movies and of Sly. IMO he doesn't do bad flicks, sure they are not masterpieces but they are 90 minutes of enjoyment, same with Arnie.
The critics did a hatchet job on this though didn't they? I don't think a Christmas release or near enough helped. Over here there was very little advertising. I think I could one TV advert and the rest were billboard pictures.I was surprised they didn't bring Adrian back, it was sad to see Rocky being back from where he originally started. I loved the way he came and spoke to the diners at the restaurant, talk about not airs and graces, I would love that. For sixty I think they guy is in fantastic shape, even though it looks like he may have had a little help if the arrest in Australia is anything to go by.Damn, I need to get this on DVD then to see the alternate ending. If I remember rightly, right from day one and definitely with an overture from Rocky 3, Paulie spent a lot of Rocky's money and made him guilty to give over more too. I daresay you are supposed to throw in Adrian's medical expenses, the restaurant bills etc. But yep, mainly Paulie. He is a character that I have never been able to stand - the man is a leech.
Anyway, just seen Starsky and Hutch - Ben Still nailed Paul Michael Glazer's mannerism etc to a T. Owen Wilson singing David Soul's "Don't Give Up on Us Baby" was hilarious!

For sixty I think they guy is in fantastic shape, even though it looks like he may have had a little help if the arrest in Australia is anything to go by. It would make sense that he used steroids. I mean, he was in amazing shape even if he'd been in his twenties, but 60? Damn. Damn, I need to get this on DVD then to see the alternate ending. I don't know if it's worth it to rent it just to see the alternate ending. I mean, it's just a few minutes. I don't want to spoil the end for those who haven't seen it. But you know how it ended? Well, in the alternate ending, the opposite person won the split decision. Not a huge difference. And Mason Dixon said some words to the news cameras. Even Rocky walking out of the arena was exactly the same shot. I don't think they refilmed anything for the final ending, they just put a different winner over the announcer. Rocky was already out of the ring and leaving the arena in the final ending, but in the alternate ending (which I think was the original ending), Rocky was still in the ring when they announced who won and it was the opposite winner of the ending in theaters. I assume they tested the film with test audiences and people didn't like the ending, so they just reedited to make the winner of the match different. The deleted scenes are kind of interesting to see on the DVD. Apparently, they had Paulie living with Rocky originally, then he moved in with his girlfriend and left Rocky alone, which is why Rocky got the dog. Paulie didn't want all the hair around, so he wouldn't let Rocky get a dog when they lived together. The scene where Rocky reconnects with Little Marie was apparently reshot for the final film. They showed the original version and there was some guy from Rocky's past in it who owned the bar. He was in a wheelchair because he'd lost his foot to diabetes. I assume he was in one of the earlier movies, but I don't remember them that well. The scene wasn't nearly as good as the one they put in the final film. The old guy distracted from Rocky's interaction with Little Marie and his offer to give her a ride at the end of the scene seemed more random and pervy than in the final version. I have to admit that I don't remember much of Rocky 3. See, *blushes* I was only 16 when I saw it and I was TOTALLY making out with a hot guy in the theater all through that movie. Those were the days! Anyway, just seen Starsky and Hutch - Ben Still nailed Paul Michael Glazer's mannerism etc to a T. Owen Wilson singing David Soul's "Don't Give Up on Us Baby" was hilarious! I loved Starsky and Hutch! Ben Stiller was hilarious. I loved when he went under cover and kept saying "Doooo IT!" In that super deep, macho voice. He's an intensely funny guy. I didn't realize that David Soul had originally sung that song Don't Give Up on Us Baby. I competely missed that reference when I saw the movie.

I shall still have a look at renting Rocky, thanks Maria. I love the deleted scenes and alternates etc.
LOL - Maria at Rocky 3! Heehee....
David Soul had quite a hit over here with "Don't Give Up On Us Baby", I think it was a one-hit-wonder thing.
