I haven't watched this show since the beginning, but I've gotten hooked on it recently from the reruns on the weekend.
My favorite characters are Lois and Chloe. I think Chloe is perfect for Clark, too bad he's got such bad taste in women.
Lois is very fun. I think the addition to her character has added life and humor that the show was lacking before.
I'm not a fan of Lana, but I think it's interesting now that she's with Lex.
Does anyone else watch this show?

I'm so excited about season 5 ;D YAY JAMES MARSTERS

I can only relate to Smallville if I just take it for face value. I hate the fact that they changed the storylines/history from the comics so much. With them adding more characters from the Justice League of America, the storylines are becoming even more warped. Come on! The Green Arrow as the founding member of the JLA, pffft!

Well, I don't know anything about the comics, so that stuff doesn't bug me.
It is getting to me that Jor-El is evil and somehow ... ALIVE!
I mean, he's supposed to be dead, right? But he's interacting with Clark and the Kents like he's alive right now. And, hello, killing people? Krypton didn't believe in killing people, which is why it put it's most horrible criminals into the Phantom Zone.
All of the sudden, Jo-El is some all powerful, omniscient being that can kill and does kill people?
That's the only thing that bugs me. It's such a 180 from the original story.
However, I don't mind that they brought Lois in early. I do wonder how she's not going to recognize Clark as Superman later, when he doesn't wear glasses now.
I think this show is really well done. Lionel Luthor is an excellent villian. He's a wonderful actor and is written so well.
OK, HEAVY SPOILER ALERT!!!!!! CHRISTINA AND OTHER EUROPEANS, LOOK AWAY~~~
Is it bugging anyone else that they are setting Lionel up to have a romance with Martha? I mean, come on! She has seen the intensity of his evil. Will she really be gullible enough to think he's changed? Jonathon would be rolling over in his grave. And I really miss Jonathon. Jon Schneider is such a major hottie.

The stuff about Jor-El in the show is completely the polar opposite of the storyline in the comics. The lore of the show has completely changed.

Is Jor-El supposed to be alive, or what? Where is he supposed to be? Like I said, I haven't watched since the beginning. Have they ever explained it?
In the first movie, he said that he'd be dead for thousands of years by the time Kal-El saw the recorded image of him in the Fortress of Solitude. I never got how that could be true, either, since Clark was like 2 or 3 when arrived in Smallville.

It depends on which era of comics (Golden, Silver, or Modern Age) history was used. The first movie based it on the Silver Age history where when Kal-El was 2-3, Jor-El found out Krypton was going to explode and built the ship to send Kal-El out of the harm's way. I think the reason why Kal-El didn't age was that he was in what they called suspend animation in the comics, that being in space doesn't age you (that is how the explain it in the new Supergirl comics). I think his ship was caught in the meteor storm and just travel around space for years until it was pulled in by Earth and landed in Smallville.
It's difficult to really know for sure the history of Superman through Smallville as I have read in articles they do not use the comics or movies as references to assure the continuity is kept. They do use them as a base for character development but they wanted to keep the two entities separate.

Just the Lionel and Martha part. The whole Jor-El thing is between the show and comics. No need to worry.

How is season 6 shaping up? I am waiting in anticipation of it arriving back on Freeview over here.
Do you think this might be it for Smallville, six seasons and no more? I am wondering where they can take the story.
Its had been an enjoyable ride and I particularly like Clark and Lex and the interactions they have had (akin to Lois how is Lex NOT going to remember Clark?) but I am pretty miffed that the mythology has been seriously screwed up with! Jor-El being the prime example.
I know they wanted to keep Smallville and Superman separate but come on, there are at least rules that should be adhered to!
I don't like that too many people know Clark's secret!
***SPOILER***
As for Martha and Lionel, well, they intimated towards the end of season 5 didn't they and I think Martha has always been attracted to Lionel's power, but Jonathan would be more than spinning in his grave, you'd be able to hook up power lines and run a town from the energy he'd generate!
***END SPOILER***

I'm so happy that you know all of that and could fill me, cuz it was bugging me. It's pretty interesting that there are even differences in the comic mythology. Can you tell me a few more of them? Thanks, Eva!
