Yes the diner scene at the end is the only out of place scene and doesn't make sence time wise, I think Donner left in in so that the audience could get some satisfaction at seeing Clark Kent beat the crap out of the bully. The Donner Cut is the way that the director Richard Donner wanted the movie to be before the the studio hacked it up. Sure the diner scene is a big hole but so is the lame "magic Kiss" that is in the original.
I definately prefer the Donner cut over the original but I am glad that both versions are available so the viewer can pick the one they like best ;D

I definately prefer the Donner cut over the original but I am glad that both versions are available so the viewer can pick the one they like best ;D Don't you think turning back time to before the missile blew up in the first movie was a big cop out? It just eradicated all the events of the movie. And it was the same plot device they used in the first movie, so it seems lazy and disappointing to me. I also thought that it was a plot hole that they said that Jor-El was somehow still alive in this one. He said that this last act of giving Superman his powers back would take the last of Jor-El's energy. And Jor-El even became corporeal to give Superman his powers back. But we know he was dead after Kal-El was launched. The green crystal built the Fortress. Also, even though Jor-El said that the power of the Fortress would be gone with Superman getting his power back, it still worked to take away the powers of the evil Kryptonians. I actually preferred the magic kiss device, but I would have really liked it if they'd just let Lois remember who he was. I really loved the character development in the Donner version. We see so much more depth in Superman's personality, as well as his relationship with Lois. It was far less comic book and two dimensional. I'm really psyched to see this version. There's great insight into the characters. I think we also got to see so much more of Christopher Reeve's acting range. I think the regular Superman II worked better as an action/superhero film and the Donner version was better as a character-driven piece.

I think the regular Superman II worked better as an action/superhero film and the Donner version was better as a character-driven piece. One thing to remember, the turning back time sequence wasn't supposed to be in the first movie at all. the scene was filmed for the second movie. "Superman The Movie" was originally supposed to end with a cliffhanger with the breaking of the phantom zone and the release of Zod. Unfortunately it is because of the Studio that we got the endings that were released. Both movies were being filmed at the same time ... Superman The movie was behind schedule and the studios wanted it released, So they put Superman II on hold to rush the completion of the first movie; also they weren't confident that the movie would be a hit and were afraid of leaving a cliffhanger ending so they made Donner use the turn back time shot so that the first movie would have concrete ending. When Superman the movie became a smash hit the studio went ahead with Superman II but had a fallout with Donner. Donner was replaced as the director. The new director took most of the footage shot for Superman II added some more and basically rewrote and chopped up Donner's original vision for the two films. It was the new director that put the Magic Kiss scene and the Paris terrorist scene in the second movie. He also replaced the the Zor-El scenes with the scenes using superman's mom because the studio did not want to Pay Marlon Brando for the second movie. If Donner was allowed to do the movies without Studio intervention the way he had envisioned, then both "Superman the movie" and "Superman II" would have looked totally different than what was originally released. If you get the chance maria watch the Donner cut again with the Richard Donner audio commentary and you will understand better the vision that Richard Donner originally had for these movies.

If you get the chance maria watch the Donner cut again with the Richard Donner audio commentary and you will understand better the vision that Richard Donner originally had for these movies. Wow! That's so interesting! I had no idea that they hadn't planned the turning back time sequence for the first one. So Lois wasn't supposed to die? But they filmed more footage for that? It's hard for me to separate from how it ended, because I've loved the way the first movie was done for so long. It's hard to imagine if the whole thing had been different to start with. That's really annoying that the studio didn't want to include Jor-El's scenes because they didn't want to pay Marlon Brando. Of course knowing how Brando was, he probably was charging a mint. But still, it was great stuff. I wonder if they had to pay Brando's estate for the extra scenes in this cut. I was planning to watch the Richard Donner commentary, but now you've gotten me more excited to do it. Thanks for the info!

Maria - Brando was allegedly paid $3 million for his cameo in Superman. Wow! Really? That was a lot of money way back in the early 1980s. Brando was always looking at add to his coffers. I just watched Frequency again. USA played it today for Father's Day. It's such an awesome movie. It made me all emotional at the end. Thank God Dennis Quaid quit smoking! LOL.

Ghost Rider, and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. I usually don't have much patience for Nicolas Cage's pouting, but it was tolerable in the midst of the cool effects and stylish villians. I expected it to be cartoony and fun. It didn't disappoint.
I went in not knowing anything about the comic books, but it would be interesting to find out the real story.

I just bought and watched 'little children'.
omg it was incredible! SOOOO good. Very sad film. All about adultery and paedophillia etc but it was incredibly compelling and the acting was phenomenal. Kate winslet as always was awesome, she got oscar nominated for the role I think, I know the film was nominated for 3 oscars as well.
but yeh it was really, really good so I suggest anyone try and find the chance to watch it. Very moving, and like I said compelling.
