I watched this film the other day and I want to say how much I enjoyed it. It was very different from anything I have seen before. It was compelling to watch and very emotional. I love Heath Ledger he is such an amazing actor, the roles he chooses are very diverse. There are a few things I didnt get in the film. Did Jacks parents know he was gay? His mom let Unis have that old bloody shirt, she seemed to know he would take something from his room. And was Jack killed by people who hate gays, or was it Unis imagination that he was? I cant believe he died - they never said goodbye. They were so in love it was obvious as they hadnt seen one another for about 2 years, I felt the connection between them. Great acting, great concept, it definately deserved the awards it got

I love this movie, I think his parents might have know that he was gay but I'm not exactly sure. As for the death I think that Ennis was just imagining the worst thing and not the real thing.

Jack's parents deep down Knew that Jack was Gay but in typical "redneck" fashion did not accept the fact that Jack was Gay. Jack probably never told them out right because in that part of Texas (and South), especially at that time in history folks were not accepting of anyone who is different especially Gay. That is why the parents did not let Ennis take Jack's remains back to Brokeback Mountain for burial. It was the best that they could accept was to let Ennis have something to remember Jack by; so they let him have the shirt. If you noticed they still never outright acknowledged that Jack was Gay or that he and Ennis were in Love but the parents clearly knew it. Jack was Killed "fag bashed" by homophobic neighbors after they found out that Jack was having an affair with the husband of a neighbor's wife and though they never said it out right, I believe that Jack's wife had something to do with the murder (in order to save face and her reputation (remember she was from a very rich family). That is why she explained the murder as "an accident" and it the murder itself was shown as a series of flashbacks. Unfortunately Homophobic murders of that type were and are still wide spread in that part of the South I also think that this film should have gotten the Academy Award for Best Picture over "Crash" but at least it won so many other awards including Best director

Unfortunately Homophobic murders of that type were and are still wide spread in that part of the South That is so disturbing. It used to be far more common for gay people to marry a straight person as a "beard." My dad did it. The shame of being gay really plagued him his whole life, particularly because he came from a redneck midwestern family and was a member of the clergy. Thanks for the great reviews. I think I should watch this film. I'm glad to know that one of the guys dies. I like to prepare myself for such tragic turns in movies. Otherwise, it's too upsetting. That's why I started reading spoilers for Buffy.

I've seen parts of brokeback but haven't seen it all the way through, all this talk about it makes me want to watch it again. It sounds very good. I'm a big fan of Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhall.

I think I should watch this film. I'm glad to know that one of the guys dies. I like to prepare myself for such tragic turns in movies. Otherwise, it's too upsetting. That's why I started reading spoilers for Buffy. Maria I am so sorry to hear that your dad had to go through all of that. It is so sad that society can be so cruel that would make a person hide their feelings and be ashamed of who they are. Unfortunately that kind of prejudice is still all to real for many especially for Gays that live in small country and suburban communities That kind of "Redneck rural" nonacceptance and homophobia is very similar to what the Brokeback story line is about.. SPOILER ALERTJack and Ennis Hook up one summer at Brokeback Mountain. The two fall in Love. Even though Jack (Jake Gyllenhall)wants the two of them to make a life with each other; Ennis (Heath Ledger) is afraid and is paranoid that people would find out so he suppresses his love for Jack and gets married to Michelle Williams' character and starts a family, Jack disappointed eventually marries a wealthy rodeo rider (Anne Hathaway) and starts to lead a double life also. Through the years Jack and Ennis meet every so often at Brokeback Mountain on "a fishing Trip" to spend time with each other and to be away from their wives and the lie that their lives have become. Of course Ennis' wife finds out about Jack and she and Ennis gets divorced. Jack grows distant from his wife and her over bearing rich father and wants to leave his wife to go start a ranch and new life with Ennis...but Ennis is still afraid and won't go, disheartened Jack starts to have an affair with a guy from a neighboring ranch (who's wife is friends with Jack's wife). Ultimately Jack's wife figures it out (and though it is not shown on screen) I Believe that she has her family's ranch hands "Fag bash" Jack; murdering him. when Jack doesn't meet Ennis that year for their Brokeback trip, Ennis goes and sees Jacks wife who tell Ennis that Jack had a fatal traffic accident. Broken hearted Ennis then goes to see Jack's parents and they give him Jack's Blood stained shirt to remember him by. (The blood stained shirt was a shirt that jack wore on Brokeback Mountain the first summer that they met. The Blood was from a fist fight that Jack and Ennis had. Jack had kept the shirt (unwashed) all these years (In his boyhood room at his parent's house) as a souvenir from th first time that he and Ennis met.) SPOILER OVEREven though I myself came from the deep South and lived a large part of my childhood and early adult life in "Redneck" country I am happy to say that I didn't experience as much Homophobia growing up (with the exception of some name calling and the occasional beer bottle thrown at my head when exiting a Gay bar when I was in college)but compared to things that I have seen happening to some of my friends, that indeed was minor. I am so Thankful that I was Blessed with very accepting and understanding Parents who let me grow up to be myself without shame or fear.
