Is anyone else finding this season boring and uninspiring?
I feel like the heart and the spark has gone out of the show this season.
I think that Clark seems ungrounded without his mom around. I feel like we aren't getting his feelings anymore.
So far, Kara/Supergirl seems really blah, without any personality. We already have Lana if we want someone monotone!
I'm hoping it gets better, but so far I'm losing interest.
I also am suspicious that maybe the Lana that survived is the clone. Either that or the real Lana is still in hiding and the one going back to Smallville is the clone. Lana could have just left some of her hair and flesh in the car for the explosion.

I for one Loved this episode, I find it far from boring. For me the beginning storylines have great promise. Clark may seem ungrounded but hey for all he knows he has just lost the love of his life so I see him as emotionally numb; at least for the time being. I am glad that Clark has decided to accept his responsibilities as a superhero...
I think that even though Annette O'toole was awesome as Martha Kent, for me her character has run it's course...I really got tired of Martha playing "footsie" with Lionel Luthor following Jonathan's death... for me she stopped adding anything to the story a while ago. I still would like to see a few cameos here and there but I am not sad that she is gone.
I didn't like the way that Lex got his "Get out of Jail free" card so early...I wanted to see him suffer. His demeanor seems somewhat subdued which I think is just the calm before the storm and I hope the writers make him one nasty S.O.B. I am also curious how his obsession with his mystery woman (Kara) will turn out.
I agree Lana needs to go...even though I knew that she was coming back I still kinda hoped that she would disappear...frankly I am tired of her whining. Clark Kent needs to start focusing on Lois and move on to becoming Superman. Since they are keeping Lana around...I hope that the writers give her a backbone. I do think that the whole Lana clone thing is just a convenient sag-way out of the Lex Lana marriage story and will probably be dropped (at least I hope they do not draw it out past next week)
Lois on the other hand...I am liking where her story arc is going, I can definitely see the seeds being planted for the Lois Lane that she will become. I like the chemistry between her and the new editor of the Daily Planet...I think his character will be a good addition. I realize that they have to start playing up Lois but I hope not at Chloe's expence...I hope that they will give Chloe a decent storyline and prevent her from becoming wishy washy...maybe when Jimmy comes back she will snap out of her "I'm a meteor freak" mentality and be interesting again.
as for Kara so far I am loving her...the character definitely has possibilities. The whole "is she good or bad?" and "what was her real purpose?" question is intriguing especially with the ominous warning from Jor-El (but then Jor-El's track record isn't spotless either). I think once Kara gets past the "little kryptonian girl lost" and the "my ship has blown up...what do I do" stage, then Kara will shape up to be a fun (but good) antagonist for Clark. I also think that when Laura Vandervoort relaxes into playing such an iconic character; then Supergirl will be an asset. Not sure if I really care for the the missing crystal and Homeland security arc ...for me it is too much like a pale copy of the Initiative on Buffy...but who knows it may work out to be a good story plot.
anyway...I am excited about this season so far and can't wait for the next episode ;D

I can see your points, Scotty. I agree that Martha was never an interesting character. I always preferred Jonathon. But she was all that was left of his family and she seemed to still ground him in the whole feeling of the show, Clark in Smallville.
As for Martha's story, I thought that Lionel courting her was a very evil story and fun to watch for that reason. It felt like they just left it off midway, so it feels incomplete to me. I would have liked for Lionel to really make a play for her and her to fall temporarily until she realized what he was and how Jonathon would have felt about her falling for his enemy. It would have been great drama!
I think that Lex's near death experience has made him reevaluate the steps he's taken towards darkness. But I think something will make him snap back into darkness, but at a much more evil place. I think that's what this season will be all about.
I know the way has to be made for Lois and Clark, but there's too much to be resolved with Lana now. She finally knows his secret and he knows she knows. If the real Lana comes back, they need to give us some catharthis after over six years of the love that is haunted by his secret. Don't you think?
Lois is finally a reporter at the Planet! Her destiny is in line. Now Clark needs to get his act together.
I thought that editor called out the dynamic of how Chloe has taken a step back from Wall of Weird material in her effort to hide Clark's secret. This episode showed that Lois has the reporter's edge because she's not trying to hide the truth.
I think I'm just having a hard time adjusting to all the changes in the show's tone. It's hard for me to feel emotionally attached to the attitude of any of the characters right now. For instance, Clark seems emotionless, hardly the the attitude you'd expect from someone who just lost the love of his life.
The one thing I thought was funny this week was when Kara told Clark she was his cousin, he got this weird look on his face and took a step back. It seemed like he was suddenly repulsed because he'd been thinking she was hot, or something! LMAO.
