Has anyone seen this show? Dirt is the FX network show that started when Nip/Tuck finished this season. The show not only stars Courtney Cox (F.R.I.E.N.D.S) but is also produced By her and her husband David Arquette. The show revolves around Gossip news magazine called Dirt/Now and shows the under belly of the Hollywood celebrity paparazzi gossip world. Courtney cox plays Lucy Spiller the cut throat, no holds barred editor of the magazine. Her best friend Don; is a paranoid schizophrenic photographer who gets all of the "juicy celebrity photographs and in sort keeps the viewers up on the latest happenings of the show. I will say that when I saw the advertising for this show, I had misgivings and wasn't sure that I would like it. After seeing the first show I must admit that I am Hooked. This show is provocative, sexy and edgy. Dirt delivers every bit the excitement that Nip/Tuck does and Courtney Cox is so far diverse from her previous "Monica" character that it is refreshing. Cox not only rises to the occasion of the role of Lucy Spiller but surpasses anything that I thought that she was capable of doing. The supporting cast is also just as good (though to many to go into detail) includes the likes of Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman),Mariette Hartley and Rick Fox just to name a few. If you love Nip/Tuck you will probably Love Dirt also...I know I do

You're right. This show is as crazy as Nip/Tuck. I watch it, but I don't think that Courtney is at all likeable or sympathetic. She sure dresses great, though!
I didn't think Courtney had this in her, either. But I'm surprised at how cold and distant she is. It was so creepy how she put her mom's S&M mask on. Yuck.
The druggie substory of the actor and his girlfriend is kind of boring to me. I can't figure out why we are supposed to care about those characters. At least with Lucy, we know she is haunted by her dad's suicide. I really wonder what he meant when he wrote that he did it for her. I guess we'll find out soon.
I like the young female reporter that Lucy has been training. It's sad to see her integrity be destroyed, but you gotta think that's how it goes in Hollywood.

I agree that Lucy is cold and distant but I still see a little soft side to her, for instance the way she looks out for her best friend and photographer Don and she clearly loves her brother Leo.
I see Lucy's character as a lost little girl who was traumatized by her Father's suicide and has become "Jaded" by the trappings of Hollywood and the cut throat business that she runs.
My theory about Lucy's father's suicide is that it is a sex bondage game gone bad which was covered up by her mother to look like a suicide...I mean the Bondage mask? maybe Lucy's mother and father practiced the kind of sex game where they used strangulation (I forget the proper word for it) as part of sex and they just went to far.
I also am getting real tired of the Drug addict sub plot, I like the Holt character, the up and coming action hero movie star, who is totally guilt ridden by sucumbing to Lucy's blackmail; but I could do without the, drug addicted fallen sitcom star, girlfriend.
my favorite character still has to be Don Konkey the schizophrenic photographer,. some of his scenes are just so psychedelic and funny, yet borderline creepy; that it is fun to watch. I also like his total devotion to Lucy.

Borderline creepy. LMAO. Yes, like when his dead girlfriend gave birth to the kittens? Um, so many things wrong with that scene.
That's a very good theory about the father's suicide. Asphixiation? And then Lucy started to experiment with the same thing. Given that her father died of strangulation, it seemed really creepy.
I love her compassion towards the Schizophrenic. I relate to the way she is honest about the past, despite her mom's attempts to deny what happened. However, it's her distant, cold manner that is the most off-putting for me.

I know that Hollywood is dark and perverted, but I sure hope it isn't as bad as this show!
I've seen shows do their plots based on "ripped from the headlines", but this show makes the parrallels SO obvious.
I can't believe how close this week's plot with the two sisters and their former southern preacher dad was to Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, except that the show portrayed the dad as a guy who pimped out his daughters to blackmail magazines into making them stars. Creepy! I know Joe Simpson is an ambitious jerk, but I seriously hope he's not THAT bad.
I still find the two young stars boring. I don't know how either of them could be movie stars. The guy is kind of like a young Sean Penn, without the violent streak. It's hard to know why anyone would be into him. It was pretty icky when he got the tape back from Lucy, then they had their little scene in the vault and he said, "Paid in full." Yuck.
The schizophrenic guy and his girlfriend and the cake. WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION!

It actually weird to see Courtney Cox being so cold and unemotional. She doesn't have any of the upbeat, over energetic personality she expressed as Monica on FRIENDS.
This show is really disturbing. It makes Nip/Tuck look like Mary Poppins. Well, not quite, but almost.

I dont know if you have seen Scream but she was really cold in that....although she redeemed herself by the end of the second one. ;D I have onle seen parts of Scream that I caught on TV. I never saw the whole thing, cuz I don't like horror movies. What I saw of her in that she seemed ambitious and focused. However, she had variety in her speech patterns and delivery. Besides playing a cut throat character in Dirt, she also has a very flat delivery. She never smiles, changes her tone, gets angry, nothing. I shouldn't say she doesn't smile. She has this evil smile that comes over her face at times. But overall, her delivery is incredibly hard-edged and flat. Frankly, she's boring. I mean, she's doing horrible things to people, but with boring delivery, if that makes any sense. The season finale was quite odd. After she was stabbed and they didn't know if she was going to make it, I thought it was interesting that I cared so little. I mean, she was on her porch and she called her photographer and said that he should come over and take pictures before calling 911. Anyone who cares more about if she gets first dibs on crime scene photos more than if her life is saved just seems too screwed up to matter. I liked Jennifer Aniston in the finale. She was two-faced, but she did it in an interesting way, with her not-emotionally present, but kind of down home hyperverbal affect, all the time while going after her own agenda. That much publicized kiss between Jennifer and Courtney was fast and not at all passionate. It was little more than a peck on the lips. That's what they've been making a big deal about for the past few months? Silly.
