Since it's almost Christmas and we're in the full swing of the season, I thought it would be fun to find out how everyone celebrates the holidays in their family or country.
What I love about Christmas is all the Christmas light, decorations and music that takes over the flavor of streets, malls, and everywhere I go in December.
Christmas lights on people's houses are so fun, colorful, and festive. I wish they were up for longer than a month!
Christmas music is so cheerful. It brings up the happiest memories of my childhood and unifies people.
I don't do much formal celebrating of Christmas. Growing up, my dad was an Episcopal priest. We had to have a service every night of Advent, do tons of volunteer work at church, spend hours putting Christmas packages together for everyone my dad had ever met, help put on church festivities and decorate our house very elaborately. My dad was a perfectionistic and very serious, so it all the Christmas pageantry was pretty unfun.
Now I don't go to church and just do what is most fun for Christmas. My only Christmas work is getting presents and sending out some cards. My goal is always to enjoy the spirit of Christmas instead of having a bunch of formal rules and concerns about image that dominated my childhood Christmases.
What does Christmas mean to you and how do you celebrate it?

I have never been one for holidays, so christmas to me is a day where all the stores are closed. I have to plan ahead and make sure I don't need anything.
Other than that it is a day to sleep in.

Sorry I missed this thread Maria! Christmas to me means: Festive lights and pretty decorations - love both in our house and on other people's. Spoiling my mom, dad and friends with things they want but wouldn't normally buy (i.e. expensive face creams etc). Family time and family! Cleaning the house from top to bottom. A time of hope and rebirth. Dad sleeping even more than usual! Being young at heart, I love Christmas the season (not so keen on the hustle and bustle and the mad people shopping).
