Ethical Dilmena
I found these topics of discussion on another Forum, and I asked if I could use them on here. I thought it would be good to get some friendly debating going!
Ethical Dilemna 1 You are late for an very important meeting that may help get you a promotion but on your way to work you see an old woman who tripped and fell. Do you help the lady? Or move on to your meeting?

With the propensity for compensation culture over here and assault charges etc, and what my boss would say if I'd miss the meeting, I'd carry on and go to the meeting.
But under normal situations e.g. out shopping etc, I would and have in the past stopped to help. Leaves you feeling kinda crap though when you get a roasting for helping, and once swatted with a handbag which really hurt.
Edit: Forgot to add I'd be driving!

I would offer to help the lady. Once she accepts, we are both on the same page and I wouldn't have to dodge a weighted handbag.
I would also tell the anecdote of me helping the old lady when I got to the meeting. Chances are the person running the meeting either has a wife, sister, mother or grandmother the same age. May put you in a better light.
And wouldn't be a great ironic if you stepped over the lady and it turned out she was the mother of your boss. She comes in and tells your boss that you didn't help her.

maybe it is the Boy scout in me but I would have to stop and ask the lady if she needed help and offer assistance. If she said yes then of course I would help her. it is only the right thing to do. Sure it may take a moment out of your day and possibly make you late for your meeting...but if your boss didn't understand is this the kind of man you would want to work for anyway?
Unfortunately I have noticed in society today that people tend to not care and walk all over one another in a vain attempt to better themselves but to what end? personally I would rather be the guy who helped this poor woman in a time of need even if it cost me the promotion at work. sure I may end up with less money at the end of the day but I guarantee I would feel better about myself. It is my experience that it never hurts to spread around some good Karma whenever to opportunity presents itself...

I would ask if she needs help to avoid having her pull a gun on me and say "Back off sony"... With my luck when Im an old man and I fall a young man or woman will laugh or karma might come back and the grand kids of the old woman I helped will offer me assistance

I'd stop to help the old lady. Since I'm already being late for the meeting, 10 extra minutes wouldn't do much more harm than it is already. And helping the person would at least make me feel a bit better (rather than just feeling crappy for being late).

I always stop to help people without thinking first. It might not always be the smartest thing! Sometimes predators pose as people in need. I think I should be more cautious.
I also catch a lot of stray dogs and reunite them with their owners. Whenever I see a dog by itself, I try to catch it. So far, they've always had tags with their phone numbers on them. It makes me too sad to think of a dog being lost or getting hit by a car. I wish more owners were responsible about not letting their dogs get out. A lot of dogs never return home.
In this hypothetical situation, I'm sure I'd help the elderly lady and tell my boss about it when I got there.
