A woman rented a Citroen C4 in London. She drove from London to Brighton. Approximately 220km. In 1st gear. She thought it was automatic. Attached the insurance photos of the engine and the bonnet. Ouch!!

It's hard to imagine that all that damage was happening and this person didn't smell anything or notice smoke, or anything.
It seems like this person should have noticed the car wasn't an automatic transmission. However, in the US, I've never seen a rental car with a stick shift. Was this lady an American? A lot of people in the US don't drive stick shifts.
I do disagree with the cracks at women as drivers, even though I know you are both women. Most of the really fast, irresponsible, aggressive drivers I see in Southern California are young males. Young males have far more accidents than young women do.
Just because this particular woman is so unconscious that she not only doesn't recognize a stick shift, but doesn't smell the entire engine melting down, or even see smoke coming from the hood doesn't mean all or most women are bad drivers. My dad used to constantly complain about "women drivers" and he had more accidents (caused by himself) than anyone I've ever known.
Right now I'm in a tremndous amount of pain from a car accident I had when I was stopped at a stoplight and a guy going 50 miles an hour hit me from behind. His brakes were out and he had already known it. He had hit someone else two hours earlier, but kept driving the car with the bad brakes. In addition, he could have turned away from my car and into a slight incline on the side of the road, stopping his car without hitting me. But he didn't.
It's left me debilitated for years, in more pain than I ever thought I could handle. I was on my way home from doing a dance performance that day and now I don't think I'll ever dance again. I've spent over $20,000 on medical bills. So please don't tell me that women are the bad drivers in the world.
People of both genders make plenty of stupid mistakes on the road.

I think the differences are that in your case Maria the guy you got rear ended by was Criminally Stupid and should have gone to Prison.
The woman that did this to the little Citroen was Terminally Stupid and should not be allowed to breed because we do not need any more of her in the Gene Pool.

Maria, whilst I do of course sympathize with you, my intent was a throw away comment. There is no comparison between the two situations of course.
As I said, it was a throw away comment to do with this woman's stupidity... As in how can you not notice? The maniacal racing of the engine might be a clue!
I was just referring to the age old cliche.

I was just referring to the age old cliche. No worries, Vicks. I know it's was a joke. It's just that I heard that cliche a lot growing up as a way to put women down. There are as many bad male drivers as female. I sure don't to be grouped with someone who makes a huge mistake like that just because we're both women! There are a lot of women I don't want to be grouped with as a cliche. People in general make lots of mistakes. I'm not called Girl Power for nothing!

nobody said she's a bad or an unsafe driver but I don't believe a man would drive 220 km in first gear cause he thinks it was automatic I'm talking about technics, not about causing accidents

She must be someone who is completely checked out of reality. That's not a gender issue, but something else entirely. Poor thing.
