The other day while I was walking home from the store, I happened to walk behind my apartment building and much to my surprise I noticed that a Dove had taken up residence on my bedroom window sill. I do not know why she decided to move in but I am kind of honored that she chose my window to nest in. I live on the third floor of an apartment building I guess the Dove felt safe because there is no way to get to that window ledge except through my bedroom window. Here are some pictures of my new Guest (I am calling her Jane) (Of course Jane is thinking…”Oh Lord there is that annoying human again …won’t he leave me alone….Jane?...Jane who?) Here is a close up of Jane (she how she poses for the camera…LOL) (Jane is thinking “there’s that annoying piece of --- with that little silver box; flashing light at me... Why doesn’t he get a life…stupid human acts like he never saw a dove before”) And here is the reason that Jane is staying put (she hasn’t budged since I discovered her sitting on my window sill and doesn’t appear to be going anywhere soon) You can just barely see her eggs underneath her wing (still don’t know how many eggs there are since she hasn’t got up to let me see) (Jane is thinking….Damn it all…get that freaking silver box out of my nest and leave me be…It isn’t right being all up into a girl’s business when all she wants is privacy)Anyway as you can see... with all the things I should be doing I still find time to annoy this poor bird (actually I haven’t messed with her at all except to take a few pictures and I was very careful not to scare her) ( Jane is thinking …stupid son of a ---- Startling me like that making me crap all over my eggs…Just when I was about to get some sleep…Asshole! )I am excited to see if her eggs hatch. I am worried for them though since my window sill is only 3 inches wide...I hope that they don't fall off. I just thought I would share this wiith everyone ;D

She's so sweet, Scotty!
I especially love the thoughts you've channelled from her. I often express my dog's thoughts, sometimes even my cat's thoughts, though the cat mostly thinks thngs like, "Feed me, lady." "What's your problem?" and "Pet me, B*tch." That cat has a bad attitude.
I'm glad that she found a safe place where she's appreciated andnot shunned, so she can hatch her eggs. I hope the baby birds won't be too noisy!
Keep us posted!

I hope the baby birds won't be too noisy! Keep us posted! The pending noise shouldn't be too bad since I hardly go into that room...I mostly store my Art Supplies and such in there ;D I will post more pictures soon; maybe I will get a few good ones of Jane's babies when they hatch (That is if the wind and rain don't blow her and her nest off the window sill )

Oh how sweet! Doves and Wood pigeons are always chubby they must get plenty to eat!
My dad keeps pigeons he races them all over the country and sometimes abroad. I have a Parrot too, so I am used to handling birds.
I hope she does nest there and evrything goes well, then we can have pics of little baby Doves!

This story reminds me of when two mallards nested in my mom's backyard.
A little while after the ducklings hatched, the mom led them into the pool. But the little ducklings couldn't jump out of the pool, like their much larger mother could. So my mom and stepdad put a little ramp into the pool and herded the ducklings out. The mom immediately led them right back into the pool! My mom and stepdad rigged 5 or 6 ramps all around the pool. They caught all the ducklings and the parents and relocated them to the river, where they could swim without getting stuck in the pool and drowning.
I thought my parents were very sweet with how worried they got about this little duck family.

Jane's sweet! I love turtle doves. I believe it's said that they mate for life (unlike us humans). So where's daddy? I hope you get to be godfather to a lovely little nest of cooing dove-lets Maybe you can name one Gracey Right now, I have a wild bunny who's been a regular visitor to my bird feeder! I hope she has a litter of little ones too. I love Maria's story about the duck family too.

I am happy and relived to tell everyone that Jane has survived This past weeks bad weather. The rain and wind was horrendously bad that I thought that it would blow poor Jane and her nest off the window sill. Jane is still sitting firmly in place on her nest and doesn't look like she is going anywhere anytime soon ;D
Tomorrow promises more bad weather (rain and Snow) so I will be worrying about poor Jane again (If I thought that she would come inside I would open the window and let her and her nest in...but if I messed with the window then she might flee in terror and then her eggs would die...so I will trust nature and let Jane be)
Still on baby Bird watch.... will up date again soon

Does it make me unromantic to point out that doves look like they are just albino pigeons?

I don't think that it is unromantic at all, If anything It is quite observant. Doves do look kinda like minature pidgeons, and White Doves would tend to look albino, but Jane (the one on my window sill) isn't white she is gray and really cute

I am happy to announce that the Dove (Jane) nesting on my window sill has hatched 2 eggs. I noticed today that her nest was a little crowded when a little one poped it's head out from under her wing. She is still way too over protective for me to get a picture of her babies...everytime I go near the window with the camera; Jane sits firmly on top of her brood preventing me from getting a good picture. when the chicks get a little larger (They are about the size of a quarter) I will get picture and post them.

LOL! It sounds like Jane hates the paparazzi! How sweet that two eggs have hatched. I wonder how many eggs she has. Do they usually all hatch at the same time? I don't know much about birds. I was thinking of you last week, because we had a bit of a wind storm and there was a bird's nest on the sidewalk. I didn't see any eggs, so I hope that the bird didn't lay any eggs before the storm hit. Birds' nests are so cool. They put so much work into them and make such tightly knit little bundles. It's awesome.
