My 24/7 job is looking after my seven month year old bab. When I am not doing that I get chance to work (well I dont consider it work anymore, its much easier than looking after a baby). I work as a Staff Nurse 3 days a week at a Hospital. Well thats me! Ali x

When I am not recovering from surgery, I am a Science Teacher.
11-16 I teach Science, 16-18 Biology, Chemistry and Psychology A Levels.
I like teaching but I hate marking and the admin side of it and am looking for a career change as the admin stuff is increasingly getting in the way of the teaching.
I also cannot keep doing the hours. Contrary to popular belief if you want to be a good teacher you cannot do 8:30am until 3:30pm and then switch off. I work every weekend, out of all the holidays I get about 2 weeks in the Summer that is actual down time, and I work most nights until 11pm.

School, currently Year 11, but in a few months will be at Sixth Form.
Right now, I am forced to take: English, Maths, Double Award Science, Art, Geography, Business Studies, French, RE, PE. General Studies also, but that one was optional, not compulsory.
After the summer, I can drop the majority of them (Thank the lord, no more French!) and I'll be studying: Maths and Further Maths (One subject, but is worth two A-Levels), Psychology, Art, and at the moment I've chosen to do English Literature, but I'm considering Chemistry instead.

Im not in the full know about the way your school works of course but the transistion from GCSE to A level is so good. It is a big leap education wise and the first few months in subjects such as history and english where I was used to A/B I was getting D/E but once you get the hang of it it is so much better. Teachers treat you respectful as young adults and all the students are a lot more mature as the drop outs have gone. Im currently in my last year of high school....I have 9 weeks left of high school....forever! omg. I thought Id be sad but now Im so sick of it and the end is so near I just want it to be over. I study English/History/Art....and Im aiming for an overall A/B/B grades. I just got my resit exams grades back and Iv bumped my D's in history up to a B and got A's in english...and Im currently on a B/A grade in art so the possibility of A/B/B is becoming a lot clearer, something I thought would never happen a few months ago. And with my A/B/B I hope to get into Kent university and study Film Studies...i cant wait for uni now. I thought Id be nervous and I will be as it comes closer but now Im just so excited for it. Out of all my friends Im like the only one actually escaping Cardiff so it sort of gives me a feeling of empowerment and independance that ill be off and away and not stuck in the same city.

I work full time, Monday-Friday. I work for a company called FOPP, used to be Music Zone, but they went into administration and FOPP bought the business. They sell DVD's/CD's etc...
I work in accounts, in purchase ledger.

I am a burger boy at Dairy Queen^^ Its not the funnest job or the best paid, but its good enough for a high school student. Oh man, that's a hard job! My first job was at Wendys. That's why I relate to how demoralizing Buffy's stint at DoubleMeat Palace was. Most people have a job like that in high school, at least at some point. It's very hard work and the customers treat you terribly. I have that this theory that the less people pay for food, the worse they treat the people who serve it to them. You should be really proud that you are a teen who actually has a job. A lot of teens have attitude and a sense of entitlement, but they haven't learned yet how hard it is to earn money. When you earn it yourself, you usually are a lot more careful about how you spend it. You can also appreciate those lectures parents give on not having attitude and learning to save and work hard.

I just finished my masters degree in counseling last summer. I also work with my husband in his corporate training and speaking business. I do admin work. I also do some writing for a little side work we do ghost writing and co-writing books for various business people. We are currently working on two of our own books on the topic that my husband trains people about. Occasionally I do trainings with him if there are break out groups, but speaking to corporations isn't really my passion. I have been planning to go back to counseling, but haven't done it yet, because I want the exact right job that is part-time and close by. The last time I worked in an office we actually lost money because I wasn't around as much to do the administrative work that our business requires. But I'm on or near my computer for most of the day, which is why I'm logged on so often.

I work in the back, so I don't actually interact with the costumers, which I like. I always hear the others who work in the front about how people ALWAYS try to scam a buck. This one guy came in and paid with a five dollar bill and when the cashier gave him his change he said "No, I paid with a 20. I should have more change." It was so stupid... I like having actual money in my bank account. Though I am so scared to spend it but I really wanna buy stuff. I just bought "How I Met Your Mother" season 1 and plan on buying the complete Alias series on my next pay check. But my parents said I should enjoy spending my first couple pay checks, I mean i did earn them and all. But I should start saving after the first few. Oh and after working at Dairy Queen I must say I really never want to eat prosessed burgers again...

Chemistry A Level is fantastic to do, it is a really good course. Can I ask you, what are you expecting the Psychology to offer? I ask because of a) studying it to degree level and b) teaching it. So many students take Psychology because they think it'll be cool and even because they think its a doss subject. It is full of Maths (which no doubt you'd find cool), the coursework element is being dropped so you cannot even do research experiments any more and there is a fantastical amount of names, dates and studies you have to learn. The exams are all essay style jobbies too. A piece of advice: If you have another subject that you like think it over as it is not too late to change.

Wow, it sounds like Psychology in England is the OPPOSITE of what it is in the United States. Here it an introductory psychology course addresses the theories about child development and the various stages of brain and social development throughout our lives. My high school psychology course was my very favorite class that I took in all of my pre-college years in school. It had more practical application to real life than anything else I studied. It didn't have any math until I studied it at the graduate (post college level). At that point, there was just some rudimentary statistics. Chemistry, on the other hand, was a nightmare for me. In the US, it basically consists of memorizing a bunch of obscure information that you can barely understand and will never use unless you become a professional scientist, then trying to replicate exactly pointless experiments the teacher demonstrates and writing up what you did and why or why not they didin't work. Is that what Chemistry is in the UK? Anyway, I think it's so fascinating how we all have different experiences and opnions about life, including subjects in school. Are these subjects completely different in the UK than how I've described my US experience?

haha girlpower that sounds exactly like chemistry over here....boring....dull....etc....Science was never my strong point!
Also about the Psychology...a lot of my friends took it and really struggled with it and ended up dropping it due to the amount of maths and factual info you have to learn...wasnt what they expected at all.

One of my favorite courses in high school was Chemistry. And it was all because of the teacher. Father McHugh and his interacting with the class. I went to a private school. so when one of my classmates decided to see how hot a bunson burner burned, he could call that kid an idiot when the thermometre broke in his face. LOVED THAT CLASS.
Anywho, right now I am in Customer Service call center for Costco. I hate my actual job, but I love everything else. . .the people I work with, the company, etc., so it balances out.
I am also going to school again part time for a computer science degree.
