This week I was Pleasantly surprised when after many months of waiting DC Direct finally released the long awaited Christopher Reeve as Superman Statue.
I am not easily impressed when it comes to Statues; especially when they depict an Iconic actor's likeness. I expect for them to be accurate and well executed especially when you are bound to be paying a pretty penny for them.
I am Happy to say that in my opinion this statue delivers in abundance.
Artist Karen Palinko has truly captured Christopher Reeve's likeness and essence as the "Man Of Steel" perfectly. everything from the pose, expression etc. is reminiscent of the 1978 film.
The paint Job is clean and the colors are vibrant.
The Statue comes in 2 pieces;( the figure and it's base) well pack inside the box with Styrofoam inserts that do a great job at protecting the statue in transit.
Caution must be used when taking the Statue out of the Box ...it is made of porcelain and though pretty sturdy, you don't want to accidentally snap his cape, or bump it the wrong way.
The base is a silver Superman "S" logo which has all the info written on the bottom including the edition #. The statue is connected to the base by metal pins which are in the bottom of Superman's feet...this is really nice since it enable easy assembly with little or no effort.
Unlike the very fragile Lynda Carter Wonder Woman statue; who's metal pins are on the base. with the WW Statue you have to be very careful so that you do not snap her boots in half every time you move the statue.
As a long time Superman fan this statue is well worth the $159.00 + shipping price tag (Though I am sure that the price will surely go up considering that this statue is sold out at most on-line retailers)
Another Awesome thing about this statue is that $15.00 of every statue sold goes to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, so by purchasing this statue you are helping keep Christopher Reeve's dream alive.
I am still in awe of this statue and in my opinion it is one of the best DC Direct Statues available and surely one of if not the best Superman Statues made.
Here are a couple of shots of the Box

sides and Box top
Here is a shot to show the comparison between the Christopher Reeve and Lynda carter Statues as you can see they compliment each other perfectly (note you can see how fragile Lynda Carter's boot attaches to her base... since you can see the peg from the stand underneath...it does fit snugly but for this brief photo I didn't want to mess with it for fear of breakage)
