The Graysons are Coming to The CW Source: Variety October 1, 2008 The CW is developing a series based on Batman sidekick Robin's pre-Caped Crusader days, reports Variety. "Smallville" executive producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson, as well as "Supernatural" executive producer McG, are behind "The Graysons," which has landed a put pilot commitment at the network. Just as "Smallville" focuses on Clark Kent in the years before he became Superman, "The Graysons" will follow the world of Dick "DJ" Grayson before he takes on the iconic Robin identity and aligns himself with Batman. "The Graysons" is seen as a potential replacement for "Smallville" should that show end its run this season, which has been speculated. Should "Smallville" return next year, "The Graysons" might also make a strong companion piece. In the one-hour "Graysons," which will be set in modern times, young DJ will face challenges involving first loves, young rivals and his family as he grows up. Souders and Peterson have come up with an original take on the character. www.comingsoon.net/news/tvnews.php?id=49254

Interesting. Sounds cool, though I would have preferred a young Bruce Wayne. I thought SV was ceasing after this season? I take it that was speculation.

The Graysons’ TV Series Axed By CW: Was Batman’s Success To Blame? Published by Elisabeth Rappe on Friday, November 7, 2008 at 9:16 am. While television seems like the ideal medium for comic book adaptations, they rarely ever make the cut to the small screen. According to Variety, the latest to fail is “The Graysons,” the CW series that would revolve around Dick “DJ” Grayson in his pre-Robin days. The series was being groomed to either replace or complement Warner Bros’ long-running “Smallville.” Rumors abound as to why the series was dropped. Some insiders say it is because of Warner Bros taking the time to rethink its DC strategy — a thought process that seems to be taking an awful long time when it comes to the big, long-awaited properties like Superman, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman. Another report suggests that Batman’s top man, Christopher Nolan, was uncomfortable with having a Batman-themed TV show on the air. But given that Nolan has no interest in ever including Robin in his Batman films, it seems unlikely that he would care about a television series focused on the Boy Wonder. It was studio president Jeff Robinov who had the final say, and the official studio statement suggests that he was the one who wasn’t interested in competing Batman mythologies. “The studio has opted not to go forward with the development of ‘The Graysons’ at this time as the concept doesn’t fit the current strategy for the Batman franchise.” “The Graysons” sounded like it had the potential to be pretty fun — are you sorry it was abandoned? Or do you think Robin should stay off movie and television screens alike? Source: splashpage.mtv.com/2008/11/07/the-graysons-tv-series-axed-by-cw-was-batmans-success-to-blame/P.S. Hope the CW gets a clue and gives Justin Hartley his own TV series Justice: Green Arrow / Flash / Cyborg / Canary / Aquaman and Kara

Wow, canned before even making a mark. Shame as it would have been iteresting, Batman mythology minus the Bat.
As for a show to replace or compliment SV, I am with you Pedro, Justice League. We must have more of the JL and in particular Justin Hartley! He isn't Jensen Ackles hot but he is nice on the eyes! ;D
