Another BBC drama, another triumph in historically inaccurate clap-trap - following closely in the footsteps of Robin Hood and the Tudors.
Where to start?
Flowers, fruit and food present in the show that was not accessible in Medieval times. Indian and Jamaican courtiers, we know the Beeb has gone all Politically Correct, but India and Jamaica were not even accessed then by English sailors. Then again this is from the same people that gave us a black instead of Jewish, Joseph of Arimathea .
Guenevere is by no means "fair" in any form of the word and instead of being a princess she is a handmaiden!
Arthur appears older than Merlin and not only that Arthur is in line for the throne, the whole Sword in the Stone saga has been conveniently bypassed!
Guenevere making eyes at Merlin not Arthur, and Morgana is now Uther's ward.
And serf's freely being allowed to wander the castle, enter rooms without knocking, speak to Noble folk as equals and attend banquets.
Even the castle is historically inaccurate in terms of design. I'm not even going to touch the ruddy great cavern that is allegedly under the castle, the logistics of getting a dragon in there, and since he is a dragon how come he cannot break his chain - may be the Beeb have decided dragons don't breathe fire now.
Signposts in English when actually English courts spoke French and I don't think there would be signposts on castle walls anyway.
Common folk reading and writing when most of the people were illiterate and were lucky if they could wash and eat let alone become schooled in literacy - most Nobles were illiterate.
And it appears that the trend continues for new dramas, as with Robin Hood, you only get an acting job with the Beeb if you are Irish!
The most shocking thing is that people will watch this rubbish and think it is historically inaccurate!
£137 a year license fee in order to produce complete tosh like this, and the Beeb wonders why Five and it's US shows grab all the viewing figures.
There was absolutely no redeeming features about this show.
