Gradient Tutorial!
OK people. As I am always asked how do you get to "this" from on a sime picture. I figured that it is time for a little tutorial
Right so first of all you are going to need a nice picture... oh say something like this:
Right as you can see, colours are interesting and the picture of Mr. J is good too. There is enough detail around him that will work for something simple like gradients. Remember to try and keep it simple as having a busy background can draw away from the center image.
OK, well first off I try and think of a colour scheme. Example, if it is a few pictures with a break-up scene, red and bright colours might not be best. Try and think of colours that would fit the mood. As there is only one image this time around, I've decided to try and just change the colours to darken and maybe enhance the background.
Right so first of all I apply a black/white gradient:
Now set the blending mode to lighten:
Right, now notice that the colours are now a little brighter [this is a good trick for darker images].
OK, now say that we want the image to have an orange tint, try using an orange gradient. Play around with the layer modes and see what happens. I chose a blue/orange gradient:
Now set the blending mode to either Darker Colour OR Overlay, with an opacity of 60%:
Right, doesn't that look good! Now you can leave it or you can keep going....
I went a little further and added a Dark Green/white gradient:
OK, now set the blending mode to multiply, and an opacity of 69%.
You should now have you gradients and image looking like this:
OK, now this is looking fabulous! Again, you can stop but its up to you. You could add a border, some text and BANG! you're done!
Well I applied a few textures that I found:
1. Copy and paste the FIRST texture on top of everything. Set the blending mode to overlay
2. Copy and paste the SECOND texture on top of the first. Set the blending mode to soft light
2. Copy and paste the THIRD texture on top of the second. Set the blending mode to screen.
Right then. this should be your final product, although I added my signature border
I hope that this can help you all out.
Post away with what you come up with, and your own creations
