Today I had to say goodbye to my dog and put her to sleep because her cancer got out of hand.
I've had my dog since I was 8 and the past 16 years she's been part of our family. Few months ago she developed some sort of infection on her stomach which the vet told us we could treat by various ointments as she was too old to survive surgery and today, after she had a very painful night, the vet told us there is nothing more to do other than put her to sleep because the infection is far too deep and can only cause more pain till she would die.
I'm not big on writing emotional things but had to get it out because talking about it is just unbearable at this point.

I hate it when you lose a pet that is more than a pet. We are all here for you Lior and you have our sympathies. Sucks big time.

Thank you for your support. I realize it was the right choice to make if only it didn't hurt as much.

Oh Lior, I'm so sorry! That's really terrible. What a sad, tragic thing to go through. 16 years is a long life for a dog. But, as you say, they are beloved and often the most long members of our families.
Have to put my dog down is one of my biggest fears. I can't imagine what you're going through. The only comfort is knowing that she lived a good life and always knew she was loved.

Thank you Lacey and Maria.
And yeah, choosing to put down your pet is a horrible decision to make but knowing how painful her final days could have been letting her die in grace was the most decent solution.
I do hope, Maria, that you never end up with this issue.
