Cell was actually readbale, but it didn't have an end... As you said, virus spread by cell phones and he couldn't decide how to finish it off so he didn't. I heard about the movie based on the book, if its like some of the others, I'll pass!

Well, Lisey's Story in the end was predictable and boring and I have to add, pretty pointless. After that I read Blaze by Richard Backman with a foreword by Stephen King, again, it had a beginning and a middle but no end it just kind of stopped. There seemed to point to the story and one begs the question: why? Okay you warm to Blaze himself quite nicely, the story putters along quite predictably and then wham! Then End. And you are left with a ton of questions, the first being "Why did I spend £10 at Tesco on this hardback?" I then switched tracks and tried a James Herbert book called The Secret of Crickley Hall. James Herbert was a choice as he was/is Graham Masterton's buddy a few years back and Herbert had good noises being made about him. I did laugh hysterically though at the short bio of the writer, I wasn't supposed to, but the blurb was saying about how fantastic a writer he was, all the translations of his books etc, saying how he had been writing since the 1970s then it dropped the priceless gem, of Herbert's 20 books. Cue double take. 20 books? 20 books? In 30 years? Ooohkay.... Now I know why... The Secret of Crickley Hall should be dealt out as a punishment, it is a huge wedge of a book at some 600 pages and the reader gets the willies all right but not from the tale... From the fact that they have to bear the onslaught of the book. The story trickles along soooooo sloooowly, by chapter 2 you have guessed exactly what is going on, know what has happened to the central characters' son since it is glaringly obvious, have a good idea of exactly how the book is going to play out and by the time you get to page 400 and a stranger arrives it is glaring obvious exactly who it is and his motivation. I am on p465 and am wondering how Herbert is going to tie all the lose ends up given the excruciating slowness of the rest of the book. If this is anything to go by, thank above that Herbert has only written 20 novels, I can imagine that he probably only writes a chapter a day. You cannot say he has lost time with research since there is none. Since TSOCH is a number 1 bestseller, one can only assume there are a lot of uneven tables in the world or the book is cheaper than a door wedge. It begs the question, have our modern day writers forgotten how to write? And where have the masters gone that can suddenly transport you to another time or place?

vicks, cheers for the new king book reviews...his latest 3 I havent been too hyped up about and reading your reviews Im glad I didnt go out and buy em, so cheers.
Im rather proud of myself, I read The Stand in a week. haha. I was rather pleased with my feat. It is a frigging huge book. Was really good but the last part was rubbish!! The built up was great and although it was all dragged out I loved all the characters so much I didnt really care. All the action etc was great.
but then when it got to the conclusion i nearly dropped the book in disappointment. I was well pissed off.
After that I read Rose Madder, which I REALLY enjoyed. It was as heavy or big as most of his books and was easy to get into, had a great heroine and a HORRIBLE villain. Seriously, Norman is like one of kings scarest villains ever. A man of pure evil, and the fact he is just a man and not some big monster like some of kings other villains makes him scarier. 4/5.
And then I got home and bought Needful things and Dreamcatcher both by king... ;D

James apologies, I just screwed up your post. New admin controls, I thought I clicked quote and I clicked modify. I am so sorry. I apologise sincerely. What I was going to say was, flaming hell, the Stand in a week, how? Hope you had a good break though. That is phenomenal reading. And yes I concur, a crap ending. He lost the plot. I haven't read Rose Madder yet, no idea why, read most of the others. Dreamcatcher is a good story, the end suffers a little, over tyeing up the plot. But is is a good story. Shame the film was fubar. Needful Things, again, decent story but the end loses it big time. A decent read tough. Mental note to self, never vacation in Castle Rock or Castle View! vicks, cheers for the new king book reviews...his latest 3 I havent been too hyped up about and reading your reviews Im glad I didnt go out and buy em, so cheers. haha jesus I know.
I do like how a lot of the novels take place there though as you get cross overs with the characters.
I was so happy to hear from Ralph from Insomnia in bag of bones.
And to have Rosie from rose madder to be reading paul sheldons books, the author from Misery.
Oh and someone was reading bobbi andersons western books from the tommyknockers in the stand.
Love the little touches like that! ;D
And yes i read like a fiend in Dominican Republic. We had no plans other than laze on the beach or pool so i read like my life depends on it. After The Stand I slowed it down though. Well i still read another 3 the next week but chuck.p books are so thin. like 250 pages each.

Im reading an excellent book!! Season Finale: The Unexpected Rise and Fall of the WB and UPN It gives you the real story behind the WB and UPN rise and fall and stuff you never new about the shows on the network. www.amazon.com/Season-Finale-Unexpected-Rise-Fall/dp/0061340995/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1197509711&sr=1-1I found out that Smallville was an 2nd option of a rejected version of what was suppose to be on instead of Smallville. The idea was to create a show based on the retelling of the origin of a DC character as a youth and his progression to becoming the hero he is destined to be but the hero was Bruce Wayne aka Batman and his turmoil after his parents deaths but Warner Bros was not keen on using Batman because they wanted to revive the movie franchise...so the creators of Smallville had to look for an alternate hero to use using the same concept and Smallville was born. I also found out the truth why WB let Buffy go to UPN. Pick up this book it is a must have!!! ___Pedro

New Moon by Stephenie Meyer (again). I just keep re-reading this series of books, they are one of my all time favourites. In fact, I have a slight obsession with them, hehe.
I highly recommend all of them! (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse).

I recently finished reading Kate Mosse's Sepulcher. It isn't a bad book, but it is slow in places. Its another time-slip novel like Labyrinth, and again you can detect Mosse's affection for France and the Carcassone region. It was also nice to see spot the guest character from Labyrinth - I won't say who. Now reading Graham Masterton's The 5th Witch. Brilliant so far, unputdownable and not for the tickle-stomached. And 150-odd pages in and loving it.

I finally got around to reading the Smallville books that Max sent me a while back as part of a contest.
I just love them! I know they are geared towards adolescents, but then so is the show. However, I love it and these books are like getting bonus episodes!
They're very fast reads, just three hours or less. But really fun. I've read three of the six he sent so far: Arrival, Runaway, and See No Evil.
Thanks again, Max!
