The streets lay bare, cars neatly parked, lawns mowed, pumpkins lit on doorsteps, decorations hung from houses porches, children ran down the long streets skipping singing the same line all over again.
“Trick or treat, trick or treat give me something good to eat”!
Laurie Strode walked down Haddonfield’s long street, watching the kids go from door to door she gave a small smile, it faded into a worried glare.
Is he out there, I don’t know?
Three years ago on Halloween Laurie had come face to face with her older brother Michael Myers the psycho killer who escaped a hospital for the insane. She had barely escaped with her life, running from him on these streets, finding all her friends murdered, she was immediately sent to the hospital after Dr. Sam Loomis shot Michael 6 times before he fell from a balcony, Loomis went to check the body…Michael was gone.
She had been haunted of his face ever since, his white face, reflecting in the windows she looked out of, swinging round to find no one standing there.
Karen Jones ascended the stairs to a large old house, it was rotting away and she had to try and sell it, she didn’t know much about the place as she is new to the area.
She stood by the window trying to see past the large wooden boards where the glass would originally have been.
It was Halloween, she loved this time of year watching all the children skipping around for sweets in their costumes, she loved doing that as a kid.
“No”. A mans voice boomed from behind her, she had only just placed her hand on the doors handle.
Turning on her heel leaning on the door, she held her hand over her heart. “You scared me”!
“Are you crazy woman, you don’t go into the Myers house…Ever, especially on Halloween”. The old man came up the lawn, staring at the house through his small beady eyes; he was bent over slightly wearing tartan pants a white t-shirt and a large old jacket.
“The Myers house”? Karen walked down the first step from the porch. She didn’t want to get to close to the old man, he scared her.
“Yes the Myers house are you deaf, that house belongs to a murdering fiend…three years ago Michael Myers came back to Haddonfield, killing teenagers all over this street, then on the same night people at the hospital, trying to kill his sister”. The man spat, he arched an eyebrow. “You’re not from around here are you”?
Karen moved down another step. “No I’m not I recently moved here due to a job opportunity”. She explained.
“Thought so…now stay away from that house, I warn you now”! The old man walked off, dragging along a small dog with him, she didn’t notice the dog before.
Karen watched him go, looking back at the house she felt as if she was being watched now knowing the houses history. Stuff that! Karen said to herself speeding off towards her car, she unlocked the boot throwing in her clipboard; she made her way round to the driving seat. She heard a small creek, looking round slowly she watched the front door to the Myers house open slowly. She relocked her door and walked back across the road standing at the edge of the walkway towards the porch.
Looking to her left where the old man had left, she reminded herself on how he warned her, it wasn’t easy to forget it, and he was way too creepy.
Karen walked off, back to her car not daring to look back at the house; the door was still creaking open. Unlocking her car door again she slid in and started the ignition, driving off from the house, looking back in her mirror she watched the house disappear.
He breathed slowly, watching the woman being warned by the old man, he watched how she kept her distance.
Moving slowly towards the door he opened it and letting it slowly creak.
The woman had only just shut her boot when he got back to the window, he again watched her, she walked across the road staring at the house he needed her to enter, he hungered.
She turned on her heel walking back to her car and leaving.
Laurie shut her front door feeling a little better being in doors; she locked the door and moved onward into the kitchen. Her adoptive parents were not home from work yet; her father was an estate agent.
She opened the fridge taking out a large carton of juice leaving it on the small island in the middle of the room she headed over to the cupboards on the wall; she opened the farthest one to the window taking out a large glass.
Pouring herself some juice she placed the carton back into the fridge.
Taking a sip she looked out the kitchen window looking into the garden, she saw his face, dropping her glass; it shattered the liquid splashing her pants. She had to hold the islands edge trying to keep herself; up and steady.
His face faded, she let out a long sigh, staring at her reflection, she moved her foot slightly kicking something, she remembered the glass.
She cleaned it up. This is getting ridiculous! She walked through into the living room letting her body drop she fell onto the couch; it was starting to get dark.
She switched on the TV, as soon as it came into focus she seen his face again, there was a news report on what had happened three years, ago she changed channel, trying not to think of him.
A kids program was on she watched a few minutes of it, the door bell rang, she looked at the door, getting up slowly she walked towards the door, peering through the small window in the door, three small children dressed in costumes stood.
She let out a long sigh before taking a small dish her parents had left on the side for trick or treaters. Opening the door they all chorused. “Trick or Treat”.
She gave a brave smiled handing each of them a handful of candy. They said their thank yous and left, she shut the door locking it, moving over into the living room she shut the curtains.
Looking round the living room looked scarily dark. Laurie switched on a small light on the table next to the couch’s arm.
Her TV was switched off, she looked at it. It lay dead; she didn’t switch it of, did she?
Laurie felt a sharp pain flow through her stomach.
“No, no he’s back”! Laurie put her hands to her head pulling her hair slightly.
Heading for the door, a knife flung through the air spinning as it glided.
It struck the door frame, just missing her head by an inch.
She unlocked the door before looking round Michael stood there, she waited for his face to fade, it didn’t.
She ran out the door, back into the road, a few people were walking by as she ran.
“He’s back”! She screamed.
They looked at her as if she was crazy.
“He’s back, he’s back”. Laurie repeated to herself.
Laurie awoke, sitting up; drenched in sweat she looked around her dark room.
It was all a dream…
Laurie pulled the covers away from her, she slid her legs from them standing up from the bed she moved round towards her bedroom window, looking in the same direction she did three years ago when she saw Michael standing in between the washing lines.
No one was there, Laurie let out a long sigh, she was glad it was all a dream, but it seemed so real.
She moved out of her bedroom, walking across the landing towards the bathroom, she pulled the long cord, switching on the light.
Staring into the mirror-cabinet she turned on the cold tap, taking a handful of water she wiped her face.
Switching off the light, she wandered down stairs it was six-thirty, she didn’t even think of returning to bed, the nightmares were too real for her to handle.
Walking into the kitchen she opened the fridge taking out a carton of juice. She moved over to the kitchen cabinets, taking out a glass, just like she had done in her dream.
Laurie stropped for a second, realising she was acting out what had happened in her dream.
Placing the juice on the island-table, she walked slowly into the living area staring at the TV, as if waiting for it to turn on. She walked through, towards the front door, looking out the small window. It was dark. She looked round staring at the dark hall, waiting for Michael’s knife to come hurdling towards her.
But nothing came, she stared into the dark area of the hall, waiting for his face to show, the hairs on the back of her neck stood up, she knew she wasn’t alone.
Walking back through to the kitchen she turned her head now and again, just be careful.
Taking her glass she walked back into the living room searching the couch for the remote.
She found it; it was a slim black remote, she turned on the TV children’s programs was on, she sat watching some colourful characters run around in circles wondering how children got up this early to watch these.
Flicking one of the buttons, the channel changed to a news broadcast, a news reader came up on the screen.
“Three years ago today, was the unforgettable murder of Haddonfield, three teenagers found dead, all killed on the same night by the same man. Michael Myers, the same man who killed his own sister, in 1963 being only six….” He announced.
Laurie switched off the TV just before her friends photos came into view on the screen, she missed Annie and Lynda so much.
The library was a large building gothic to be exact, the large halls which lay inside the building, echoing any sound made.
Laurie slowly walked down the halls to the main room, she had applied for a small job here, pulling out her name tag from her purse she clipped it on her shirt.
Walking through the large double doors she moved into the room, three students sat at a table about 5 books were open all on the same topic of Law.
She walked behind the counter placing her bag down she greeted the woman who sat in the other counter, by giving a small smile.
The library was quiet, no surprise but it never was this quiet. Laurie moved her head, her neck making a small cracking noise, she shut her eyes.
“Can I take this out”?
Laurie snapped her eyes open, a tall woman stood there holding a Haddonfield History book.
“Sure”. Laurie took the book opening its cover to remove the small green card. “Name please”.
“Karen Jones”. She smiled.
“Cool, are you new in town, or are you just browsing the history of it”? Laurie asked giving her the book.
“I’m new; I have to sell this house, the Myers house or something”. Karen placed the book in her bag, standing back a step. “What’s wrong”?
“The Myers house”? Laurie had turned a white cream colour.
Karen looked at her name tag, realising who she was talking to. “Oh, you’re his…oh sorry”. Karen walked off out the door.
Laurie chased after her. “Don’t go near that house, he’s still out there, I don’t know where”. Laurie called after her; Karen stopped and turned on her heel.
“Seriously, I thought they got him”? Karen sat on a small bench, Laurie joined her.
“No, they never did it’s been three years now and I’m still scared to go anywhere after dark, I keep seeing his face, the nightmares it’s horrible I don’t want anyone to go through that”. Laurie rubbed her forehead.
Later that night Karen sat in her car, parked across the street from the Myers House. The heavens opened and rain hit the ground, all the children walking dressed in their costumes ran to their houses, to escape the rain.
Karen turned on her wind screen wipers watching the house very carefully, watching any movement, any at all.
As she wished it, the front door opened slightly then slowly shut, two children ran holding a Jack-O’-Lantern, Karen was amazed at how it stayed lit in this weather. Both kids placed the lit pumpkin an the door step of the Myers house, Karen jumped out of her car, running towards the house, standing at the end of the walkway.
“Come here now; don’t go near that house again, do you hear me”? Karen screamed, taking both kids by the hands. “Where do you live”? She asked in a calmer voice.
Both kids shrugged and escaped from Karen’s grasp they ran down the street disappearing into the night, Karen stood there drenched, turning on her heel she moved back to her car, walking quickly, to try and not get even more wet.
Im not sure if I should continue it.
“Trick or treat, trick or treat give me something good to eat”!
