Hi What was the first single and album you purchased? Was it a record, cassette or CD? Is there a story behind you buying your first music? Do you still have them in your collection?
Album - Kylie Minogue 'Kylie' Cassette. I bought it on holiday at Tenby, Wales. It cost £4.99. I upgraded to a CD a few years later. I sold the cassette on Ebay!
Single - Band Aid 2 'let them know its christmas' Record I think it may be in the loft, if not its gone to the charity shop

Album - Hard Days Night - The Beatles
Single - The Ballad of Bonnie & Clyde
I still have them both on vinyl in a cupboard in my house, and yes they are the original 1st release copies. I am that old. ;D
A Beatles fan from the beginning, saw Wings twice in 3 days in the 70's. B & C because of the lyrics. I have always been a lyric person which is why I like a lot of singer songwriters.

Hey, I had a Rick Astley "cassingle." I loved that red head. I wonder where he is now. He had an awesome voice.
When I was a kid, had a lot of kids records. Hand me downs from my older siblings. I'd listen to the Mary Poppins soundtrack, books with records that read the books along with you, French songs, whatever.
They used to also have these flimsy, see-through records that would come with cereal. Anyone else old enough to remember those? Monkeycop? Anyone?
But the first record I ever asked for and had purchased for me was the Grease soundtrack. I was way too young to see that movie at age 7, but my older sister took me to it. I played the record over and over endlessly. Drove my family nuts. I listened to it again when I was 20 and realized how pornographic some of the lyrics are from Grease Lightning especially. I remember as a kid singing the words to Beauty School Dropout and wondering about the line, "And no customer would go to you, unless she was a HOOKER!"
Then I asked my dad, "What's a hooker?"
He said, "A lady with a lot of boyfriends."
I thought about that in the context of the song and said, "I don't think that's right." So he asked me why I was asking and I sang him the song.
He said, "It's a woman who wears too much makeup." I was satisfied with that answer. I
I'm just lucky that he didn't take my beloved Grease album away from me after that conversation. It's a good thing I didn't ask him what the lyrics, "The chicks'll cream" meant! LMAO

Rick Astley tried to make a comeback over here 2005 or thereabouts, he dropped the suit and clean cut image for a shaggy hairdo and unkept look.. I don't know where he limped into the charts but he soon went again.
