hi does anyone else watch this? its quite a refreshing show. i have seen the first two episodes and have enjoyed it so far. whats nice is that there are two english actresses in it. ashley jensen from 'extras', and lucy davis from 'the office'.
one of the episodes must show betty having a makeover, all she needs is those huge eyebrows waxing, a good brush of her hair and a new wardrobe!
she must fall in love too. i think it maybe with the daniel her boss.
does anyone else like it?

I had to watch an ep of this show while I was house sitting (it seems I only get to watch TV while house sitting ). I have to say it was great! I loved the fact that Betty isn't even average looking but cares more about people's interiors than their exteriors in the world she lives in. She looks for the good in people by over looking their facades. Its a feel good show without being sappy and it really shows all the craziness her work can bring. I love Vanessa Williams as the big boss and comic relief. She's great in that role. Hmm, I'm beginning to wonder if they took this idea from my real life. Nah, Betty is much better looking than me

I've gotten into this show during the winter hiatus while all my usual shows were in reruns.
I think it's funny and has heart, which is a rare combination.
Vanessa Williams makes a wonderful villian! She just cracks me up and has lovely style. There's nothing like a well-dressed villianess!
I read that they won't give Betty a makeover or put her with Daniel, because those were the two things that viewers hated in the original South American show.
I was shocked and disappointed in the recent twist in Selma Hayek's arc, but it makes sense to keep the formula going.

Never watched it, but the trailer for next weeks episode looks interesting. A guy chats her up to get some company information out of her- or something along those lines.

i have seen the actress (in the newspaper) who plays betty in the show and she is well pretty - she has a beautiful smile. just goes to show how a wig, big eyebrows and mismatched clothes can change a person!

Not to mention braces and glasses! Selma Hayek said that the higher ups thought America (sp?) was too pretty to be Ugly Betty, but Hayek went to bat to prove how ugly America could be. I woner how many years they'll be able to keep those braces. Most people don't wear them for more than a year, right?

Im confused.... I have just watched the episode where the unveiled woman is revealed. Is Alex/Alexis Daniels brother? /?? Yes, that reveal was the huge surprise of the season. The woman working with Vanessa Williams was shrouded and darkness and mystery all season. It was finally revealed that she was Daniel's brother Alex. Alex had faked his own death two years earlier. In the meantime he'd had sexual reassignment surgery (commonly called a sex change operation). Now Alex is Alexis, played by Rebecca Romjin. Best sexual reassignment surgery EVER!

I'm sure there will be. It's a huge hit over here. But we're still in the first season right now.
Some big changes just happened in the last new episode. A huge twist.
I think that Vanessa Williams has finally found her calling playing a villian. She's just deliciously evil on this show. I've always thought that she was stiff and unlikable as an actress. Her voice is hard and she seems really fake. But all of that works to her advantage in this role.
I think the overall look and style of the show is beautifully done. I compulsively want to give Betty a makeover. It's hard to imagine that a girl who is so smart would be that unable to at least get a decent haircut and put on matching clothes after working at a fashion magazine for so long. It seems like SOMEONE there would give her a makeover, or at least her very pretty sister.
However, since the whole show is pretty over-the-top, I just try to suspend disbelief.

I hope so too. I love Vanessa Williams as a baddie too. I have never seen her in anything else though. I loved it though when she became 'nice' for an episode because she was in love with the Texan. I think that maybe this sex change storyline may be abit too over the top, but we will have to see how it goes. My fave characters are Mark and Amanda. I love his catty remarks and I love it how she just eats and eats especially carbs when she is worried and anxious!
