Dubbing is distracting, but it's better if it's done right, with appropriate voices and the words matching the mouth movements.
I don't like watching subtitled movies, though. I feel like I'm reading and not watching what's going on and the expressions of the actors, etc. It's easier if I'm at home, but at the theater, I can't rewind and see what I missed.

well for anime films I prefer to watch it dubbed but with film with real people I much prefer subbed.
its not so bad with animation as its less noticeable.

I love watching Oriental films with the subtitles on and the dubbed voices so that I can compare. Sometimes its hysterical how bad the dubbs are compared to the subbs.

oriental movies I watch subbed, weirdly especially the indian ones are easy to understand however I do watch american movies/shows dubbed since the american accent is pretty hard to understand

Sub so I can see how badly the translation is. This usually holds true when I'm watching Chinese movies. Whoever they hired to do the translations should be fired.
Dub for anime films. The original female voices are usually too high pitched for me to listen to.

Subs! But i might say that because i'm so used to it, everything english/american is subbed over her, i hate those German channels that dub everything, Buffy speaking German? no thank you.
With animated movies i'm usually not that strict, except for movies like Shrek and Nemo, they just have to be watched with the original voices.

I prefer subtitles...I just hate dubbed movies. BTW, Gerry, in Russian they don't use "Watching" for movies but "Looking". So the way you wrote it your sentence reads like: "Do you examine you movied...".

Dubbed, I find subs distract me from what's going on in the movie as I focus too much on reading (some of those long words can be heard you know!).
