I have decided to take a small break from the Buffy Season Finales drawing until I can work out an idea for the layout and to clear my thoughts...not to worry the break will be brief and there will be an update for that drawing soon . In the meantime I offer you an in progress scan of another drawing that I am working on (actually I am working on 3 drawings at once...LOL) This Drawing is a commission for Sammie and is the second drawing in my Harry Potter series of drawings. The drawing features Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood from the movie "Harry Potter and the Order of The Phoenix" . This scan shows the initial cleaned up line drawing with white highlights and is only half of the total drawing. the other half of the drawing will feature a smaller portrait of Luna using her wand. as always constructive comments and criticisms are welcomed and appreciated so Please let me know what you think ;D

I don't watch or read HP, but I can say that I love the crispness of the drawing, the highlights are perfect and the eyes are the centre piece and really draw the viewer in. She also looks like she is up to mischief. Scotty, I really hate you, you draw too well!

She also looks like she is up to mischief. Scotty, I really hate you, you draw too well! AWWWW now that aint no attitude to have....LMAO ;D Thanks Vicks I appreciate the kind words. I haven't read the books or seen the new movie yet; so I am not sure if Luna is mischevious or not. What I have read about the character from a synopsis by author JK Rowling is that Luna is quite "Out there", excentric and kinda air headed. she wears raddish ear rings and a beer cork necklace as jewelry...she does sound like a lot of fun. Here is another in progress scan of the Luna Lovegood drawing. In this scan I have completed the layout of the drawing and refined the line drawing and added more white highlights. the next step is the adding details and color. as always constructive comments and criticisms are welcomed and appreciated so Please let me know what you think ;D

Here is an update scan of the Luna Lovegood drawing. In this scan I have blocked in the main portrait and have started adding details and blocking in the background colors. The drawing is still in the "rough" stage and has quite a lot of work left to be done Next I will work on the smaller portrait. After all of the colors are blocked in I will then go back and add more details to tie both sections of the drawing together. As always constructive comments and criticisms are welcomed and appreciated...so Please let me know what you think ;D

I always find that your colouring always looks like oil paints and then the final product a portrait, how do you do that (besides natural talent )?

Thanks for the Awesome feedback. I really appreciate all the great comments; they truly mean a lot to me ;D I always find that your colouring always looks like oil paints and then the final product a portrait, how do you do that (besides natural talent )? I think that I achieve the final look of my drawings mostly by using lots of layers (I go from the lightest color to the darkest and then back again). Also the use of white acrylic on highlights may help a bit. I also try to keep the lines crisp and not muddied. I very rarely, if ever, use an eraser once I am done with the initial line drawing. I find that erasing dulls the colors and lines, if I need to correct a flaw I instead use a razor blade and lightly scrape off the layer and re touch. here is a close up of Luna...in this in progress close up you can see a little of the layering process. compare the back portion of her hair (right side) with the left and you will see what I am referring to. also look at the shirt and tie as compared to the sweater. there is quite a few more layers to be done before the drawing is finished, but in this scan you can see the various layers in various stages.

I'm not familar with the actress, but this picture is striking in the texture and depth of her skin and hair. It's just amazing.
I also really love the composition with her casting a spell. The twinkle in her eye as she works her magic is really striking.
Your work never ceases to awe me, Scotty!

Thanks Maria...as always; your kind words and feedback mean a lot to me ;D Here is the next up date scan of the Luna Lovegood drawing. In this scan I have blocked in the Hogwarts stained glass window and started some of the wispy "Magic" effects in the background. the next step will be to block in the smaller portrait of Luna, finish blocking in the background and then add all the tiny details to tie the drawing together. As always constructive comments and criticisms are Welcomed and appreciated...so Please let me know what you think

Ooh! The windows look amazing! They look like they took FOREVER to do. You did so many different colors and textures. Awesome job.
The light effects around the rabbit look very etheric. Just wonderful. I love how you lay out the process for us. It's fun to see how it progresses.
Great job!
Are you selling your prints on ebay yet? Harry Potter fever is big right now. It'd be a great time to make some MONEY with all of your Harry Potter art!
